My name is Keith Stolle and I play the Native American Style Flute. I have been playing now for 16 years. I love to teach and perform. I really enjoy improvising with other musicians. I live in the great city of Georgetown Texas. I am a native Texan through and through.
My wife and I were celebrating our 25 anniversary in Kerrville. The county fair was going on in Fredericksburg Texas so we decided to go and see what it was all about. It was surprising that neither of us had ever been to a county fair before.
We arrived and went through the exhibits of wool, pies and crafts. We then headed out to where the vendors were. I heard this beautiful music coming from somewhere among all the vendors and decided I had to find where it was coming from.
We made our way through the many wonderful arts and crafts and finally found where the music was coming from. In the booth sat a sleeping older native and a very nice looking younger lady. There were these beautiful flutes lined up at the back of the booth and they immediately caught my eye. I asked her about them and she told me the music I was hearing was recorded by the still sleeping native American using flutes similar to these. I was intrigued. We chatted for a while longer and then me and misses wondered about for a while. I could not get the sound of the music out of my head. I felt myself getting pulled back towards the music. We ended up back at the booth and this time the gentleman was awake and he introduced himself as Cody Little Hawk Swimmer, a member of the Cherokee nation.
He asked if I would like for him to play for me and I of course said yes. He started to play and it touched my heart so much I began to cry. He must have thought me a bit strange as I am not small fella but I was crying like a baby. I watched closely as he played and decided I had to have a flute.
I bought the most expensive flute he had because it was pretty. I figured if I couldn't learn to play it I could put it on display. That flute became a part of me and within a couple of months I went from 1 flute to about 10.
The Native American Style flute has been a big part of my life ever sense. It brings me so much joy to share my gift with others and to teach others how to play.
I became friends with the old Cherokee and we traveled to Taos and Santa Fe together doing shows. It is a time I will never forget.
